Fill out a Marriage License Application
  • 1. I have applied with the Kentucky Secretary of State to become a Notary Public.
    2. I have received my notice from the Secretary of State confirming my appointment as a Notary Public for the state of Kentucky.
    3. I have obtained an insurance bond as surety.
    4. I can present the original COMPLETED bond (signed and notarized where applicable) to the County Clerk.
  • To become a Notary Public in the state of Kentucky, you must first apply with the Secretary of State. You can access the Notary Portal through their website at www.sos.ky.gov. As of January 1, 2020, it is now required of a notary applicant to obtain an insurance bond. This process will be further explained on the Secretary of State’s website.

After you have completed the process with the Secretary of State, a postcard will be mailed to you instructing that you come to the County Clerk’s office to be sworn in as a notary. Notary appointments are scheduled daily. You will need to bring a valid driver’s license, your original completed notary bond*, and a fee of $19 with you on the day of your appointment. (We can accept cash, check, or debit/credit card. Please be advised that a small fee will apply to the use of a debit/credit card.)

*The insurance bond that you obtain for your notary application will often have a place for you to sign as “principal” and another section sometimes referred to as “Oath of Office” that will require you to sign in front of a notary. This MUST be completed before your appointment. The original documentation is required to be submitted at the time of the appointment. However, they will be returned to you at the end of the process.

Marriage License Application

Step 1 of 5 - Important Reminder

0%
  • 1. One of both parties must be Scott County residents as proven on a valid driver's license
    2. Both parties must be at least 18 years of age and present to obtain the license
    3. All license obtained in this office are valid for thirty (30) days from the date of issuance and must be utilized in the state of Kentucky
    4. The marriage license fee is fifty dollars ($50.00) (cash/check/card---use of card will incur a 2.75% vendor's fee)
    5. Once a marriage license is returned to the County Clerk and becomes a permanent public record, a costly court order at your expense is the only avenue for making any corrections. Proof of marriage often becomes necessary when dealing with insurance companies, obtaining a passport, retirement, etc. We cannot stress enough the importance of presenting accurate information to the best of your knowledge during this process. Please review your application BEFORE submitting it.
